Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

At Brockholes Junior and Infant School, we care about everyone's emotional wellbeing and mental health.

As a school, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of all our pupils, staff and parents. Nurture is at the heart of all that we do and we understand that good mental health facilitates growth, development and achievement. We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable, and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We are on a journey which celebrates the existing work we do and will continue to develop in order to support mental health and emotional wellbeing across all areas of our school. All children, parents/carers and school staff are part of this journey and can contribute towards a healthy understanding of the importance of emotional health.

Here are some of the things we offer in school:
• Emotional check in opportunities daily in every class
• Help children socially to form and maintain positive relationships
• Promote self-esteem and confidence through positive praise and reward systems
• Help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks
• Year 6 Befrienders which the SMHL checks in with regularly
• Mental Health ‘Squad’ which includes a Parent, SMHL, SLT, Class Teacher, Cover Supervisor, ETA and Lunchtime Supervisor
• PSHE lessons as part of the curriculum, but also responding pro-actively to any additional needs

The next Mental Health Squad meeting is scheduled for February 2023
