Year 5

 

 

Happy New School Year!

This term we will be studying the Ancient Egyptians. We will learn about when and where the Ancient Egyptians lived and look at their amazing creations, like their spectacular pyramids and think about how they were built. We will be making Egyptian Death Masks, Pyramids with hidden tombs, Scarab Beetles and Shadufs.

We will be heading of to the Leeds museum to further our studies on mummification and see the remains of Nesyamun. 

In writing we will be using the book The Time Travelling Cat and the Egyptian Goddess Sea by Julia Jarmin as a source to find out about Bastis and Bubastis and the Ancient Egyptians. We will use this as a hook for to inspire our writing. We will expand our writing skills learning how to write reports, narrative and poetry.

 

 

Our science focus is on properties and changes of Materials so there is lots of information to recall and practise. The children may have some intermittent science projects to complete as part of homework.

In maths we are working on place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions, keep practising multiplication tables these will be used all the time in Year 5 to help us with our maths topics. 

Homework will be set every week and will include; reading, times tables practise, maths, spellings and sometimes comprehension.  

Work on remembering your times tables. You can use TTRS or other online games.

In PE this term we will focus on Athletics, Invasion games skills, gymnastics and dance.
